Our Purpose

Living On Mission

Who we are can be most clearly found in what we’re called to do – the mission that we are on together: Living Intentionally to Bring God’s Kingdom Everywhere We Go! This is our way of saying that we are called to live on mission – live ON PURPOSE – for Jesus Christ. The Bible clearly teaches us that God “saved us to SEND us.” That’s the heartbeat of who we are.

Here at The Brook, our team of pastors, elders, and staff love leading and serving our people on this journey together. We’d love for you to take a few minutes and learn more about them, as well as our values and our beliefs.

Our Values

Our Core Values are our shared convictions. They guide our decisions,
reveal our strengths and passions, and remind us our unique calling as a church:

Authentic Worship

Worship is a way of life. Our “songs, hymns, and spiritual songs” are important, first of all because they are praise to our great God, but also because they should be a reflection of our hearts and lives.

Audacious Faith

Trusting God for vision beyond our resources. We are called to be a people that ask and expect God to do things in and through our lives that would not be possible without Him.

Disciple Making

Imitate me as I imitate Christ. This is the call on the life of every Christ-follower, to “make disciples”.

Generous Giving

We are blessed to be a blessing. God has blessed us beyond comprehension – with our time, our talents, and our resources and treasure. Our desire is that it all be poured back out for the sake of others and the Gospel.

Intentional Living

No relationship grows on accident. It is vital that we carve out margin in our lives, sometimes going out of our way, to love people for the sake of the Kingdom of God. This will not happen on accident.

Servant Leading

Actions speak louder than words. To show His disciples how to lead, Jesus wrapped a towel around His waist, got on His knees, and washed their feet. He didn’t just tell them; He showed them.

Our Beliefs

The Word of God

The Bible was written by men divinely inspired by God. It is God’s revelation of Himself to man. It is a perfect treasure of divine instruction. It has God for it’s author, salvation for it’s end, and truth, without any mixture of error, for it’s matter. (1 Timothy 3:16-17)

God

There is one and only living & true God. The eternal God reveals himself as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, with distinct personal attributes, but without division of nature, essence, or being. (1 Timothy 1:17)

God the Father

God as Father reigns supreme over His universe, His creatures, and the flow of the stream of human history according to the purpose of His grace. God is Father in truth to those who become children of God through faith in Jesus Christ. (Matthew 23:9)

God the Son

Christ is the eternal son of God. In his incarnation as Jesus Christ, He was conceived of the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. He honored the divine law by His personal obedience, and in His death on the cross, He made provision for mankind from the penalty of sin and death. (Matthew 3:17)

God the Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of God. He exalts Christ. He convicts of sin, of righteousness and of judgment. He enlightens, empowers, comforts and convicts those who have placed their faith in Christ. Through the Holy Spirit, God has “taken up residence” within His children. (2 Cor. 3:16-18)

Man

Man was created by the special act of God, in His own image, and is the crowning work of His creation. By his free choice, man sinned against God and brought sin into the human race. The sacredness of human personality is evident in that God created man in His own image, and in that Christ died for man; therefore, every man possesses dignity and is worthy of respect & Christian love. (Genesis 1:26-27)

Salvation

Salvation is found through faith in Jesus Christ alone. It is provided by the atoning work of Jesus Christ on the cross and through His resurrection from the dead. In its broadest sense, salvation includes regeneration, sanctification, and glorification. (John 3:16, 14:6)

The Church

A New Testament church of the Lord Jesus Christ is a local body of baptized believers who are associated by covenant of the faith and the fellowship of the Gospel. The church is an autonomous body. The New Testament also speaks of the church as the body of Christ, which includes all the redeemed throughout the ages. (Acts 2:43-47)

Baptism & the Lord’s Supper

Christian baptism is the immersion of a believer in water. It is an act of obedience symbolizing the believer’s faith in a crucified, buried, and risen Savior, the believer’s death to sin, the burial of the old life, and the resurrection to walk in newness of life with Christ.

The Lord’s Supper is an act whereby followers of Christ reflect on the sacrifice He made with His body and His blood for the atonement of our sin, and the anticipation of His second coming. (Romans 6:1-4, 1 Cor. 11:23-34)

Tithing & Stewardship

The Bible teaches that (at minimum) the Lord has asked us to “give back” at least 10% of what He has blessed us with. But here at The Brook, we believe God has called us to live a life of extravagant generosity! (Deut. 14:22-23, 2 Cor. 8, Malachi 3:8-12)

The Sabbath

The first day of the week is the Lord’s day – a time for God’s people to find rest in Him, to remember that He is the “giver of all good things”, and to fellowship with one another. (Exodus 20:8, 31:12-17)

The Second Coming of Christ

Jesus Christ will return for His people. Scripture teaches that it will happen “in the twinkling of an eye” and “unexpectedly, like a thief in the night”. Jesus himself said that not even He knows the time or date – only the Father knows. As His church, we should be living our lives in eager anticipation of His return. (1 Thessalonians 4:13-5:11, Matthew 24:14)

The Gospel

The saving news that Jesus Christ has atoned for our sin and gives us new life NOW – is the foundation for everything we do here at The Brook. It’s why we come together – why we gather – and it’s why we are sent out – why we scatter. It’s the foundation for WHO we are, WHAT we do, and WHY we do it.
